Despite the judgement of Five Judge Constitution Bench of the Honourable Supreme Court concluding that Marathas are dominant Forward Class, there were street protests and agitations demanding reservation for Maratha Community. Maharashtra government formed another commission (third such commission in 10 years) under the Chairmanship of Justice (Retd) Sunil Balkrishna Shukre. Shukre Commission conducted a based on a 11 day survey conducted between 23rd January 2024 and 2nd February 2024 concluded that Marathas are a backward community and recommended 10% reservation to be provided exclusively to them. The case is pending in the Hon’ble Bombay High Court.
