February 13, 2010: The Indian Express

A court in Madhya Pradesh has asked the police to arrest Parliamentary Affairs, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra for allegedly furnishing wrong information in the affidavit he had filed before the 2008 Assembly elections.Responding to a private complaint, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Datia, Bhupendra Kumar Singh has asked the police to produce Mishra before him by March 11. An MLA from Datia, Mishra had contested against Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia from the Guna Lok Sabha constituency in the last general elections.

While giving details of his property and valuables, Mishra had left the vehicle column blank. But a Tavera vehicle seized by the police was released in December 2008 after submission of papers that proved Mishra owned it. The vehicle was seized by the police because it was plying without permission from the office of the Returning Officer. The police had recovered campaign material from the vehicle.Mishra’s nephew had reportedly paid the fine and got the vehicle released by following a due procedure in the Criminal Procedure Code.

Producing copies of the affidavit and the order releasing the vehicle, Bhanu Pratap Bundela filed a private complaint through his advocate Mahipal Singh in the Datia court.

Mishra, who is in Hardwar, told The Indian Express that he would appeal against the order on his return. He said he had not received any notice before or else he would have put up his defence. He said the offence was not so serious to lead to an arrest warrant. ¶I respect the judiciary,¶ he said.
