NEW DELHI: Youth for Equality, which was involved in the 2006 anti-reservation protests, launched its political wing here on Wednesday to make direct political intervention in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The political wing has over 20,000 members, including students, doctors, engineers, lawyers and other civil society members.

“YFE will not follow the usual route of other political parties in selecting candidates. We will endorse a person who will support our ideology. The person will be selected as the people’s candidate through an open selection process,¶ said YFE president Kaushal Kant Mishra at a press conference.

The outfit has invited resumes from residents across Delhi. Anyone between 25 and 40 years who is at least a graduate can apply. All the applications will be screened by an expert panel. The top 10 names will be sent to residents’ welfare associations, traders’ associations and non-government organisations in that area to give grades to them. “The person with the best rating will be elected as the people’s candidate and will fight elections from the YFE platform in the New Delhi constituency. Some of the issues that the outfit will espouse are: anti-reservation ideology, no criminals in politics, stricter judiciary and stringent laws for corruption, fixing target and accountability.
