Even chameleon thinks twice before changing color but not the shameless Politicians and their political party! The Congress Party which opposes reservations during the Mandal – I era now advocating it like anything. The professional communists are another such breed. They can even go to the extent of adopting capitalism (as they have done in Bengal) in the name of Marxism if it suits their narrow political/capital interest. A party (Communist) advocated two issues NO MANDAL! NO COMANDAL during the Mandal – I period is now the strongest votary of both! It was during the height of Mandal struggle in 1990 the Communists opposed the OBC reservation in education and in jobs as the then communists had embedded with some sense of consciousness and soulful thinking. Then they sold their soul and opted caste based reservation for OBCs, the most powerful segment of Hindu society. Interestingly they had termed Islam in India as a caste ridden religion and divided this fraternally associated religion on the line of castes. Now the whole world may be wondering how Islam – famous for its homogeneity and fraternity – has discovered and developed caste related division.

What the political parties and social justicewala cites is centuries of suppression! YFE consider the reservation in the name of social justice is organized loot being carried out by the political class in the name of social justice. How long it may take to improve the condition of a country’s population?? And whom to offer social justice – to the rich and powerful or the real needy/backward? And which castes remained suppressed for centuries?? Centuries of suppression??? Come on dear Communists friends. Let’s talk about the last 2000 years. The initial centuries like 100 A.D. to 700 A.D. were ruled by Mauryas, Guptas, Vardhanas, Yadavas in the North India and Nayak, Chola, Pallava and many more in the South India. They all were of Shudra background, if one believes in Varna system. Then the Sultanate period dominated for another seven centuries, from 800 A.D. to 1400 A.D. The system prevailing during this period was Arabic or Persian. The Sultanate period gave way to Mughals for another two centuries from 1500 A.D. to 1750 A.D. and Turkish system were the norms of India. After that the Britishers taken the baton of India for another two centuries from 1750 to 1947 and English system were introduced. After 1947 Democracy has taken firm foundation in India. This can be analyzed even by a high school student or by every one except the Communists!! YFE is just making the point as the Communists hardly accept the reality since their foundation itself is based on false notion.

The Honorable Chief Justice of India pronounced an order on 16th of May 2008 saying that “the concept of Creamy Layer is not for individuals but will be for a community¶! By this order no person falls under the creamy layer bracket as no community in India is fully developed hence removal of any person will be a violation of Supreme Court Order! Strangely till date the concept of creamy layer is applied to individuals only. Such order, it seems, is a contradiction of the Supreme Court’s previous order and also in contradiction of what is in practice. This fact must be exposed!

The present Gujjar agitation is a testimony how the reservation policy in India is leading to civil war as well as civil unrest. Sub-Groups within the broad classifications like OBCs and SC feel that benefits under those classifications are going only to a few sub-castes. Gujjars, though classified as backward have never been satisfied with the OBC tag. They have realized that it is advanced castes within the OBCs who are taking all the benefit of OBC reservation. It is easy for the Gujjars to feel that only an ST tag can save them from other advanced castes within the OBC.  More such protests will be going to engulf India in the near future. This issue is going to come to the political forefront in the coming years. When these groups get minimally educated and feel cheated that their education has not equipped them for much, a social catastrophe will be in the making. It is no accident that the Gujjar agitation comes at the end of the decimation of quality higher education in Rajasthan, abetted by all parties.

Political parties advancing the argument that infrastructure increase will do the wonder. But that was the cruelest joke on the face of the already resource crunch higher education in India. YFE tried to know the government’s effort regarding the increase of infrastructure through RTI and found that not a single rupee has been spent for the same till date!  Students of various medical colleges have taken this cause again and tasked the government as well as civil society to amend the mistakes done by the political machination of the incumbent government. It is time to tell the vote greedy politicians that India is interested in moving forward not backward. It would be comfortable to dismiss Youth For Equality’s argument and term the Gujjar uprising as Rajasthan’s exceptionalism. But the truth is that our politics is driving us into an explosive cul de sac (a dead-end street with only one inlet/outlet).  The recent, terrible violence in Rajasthan is reminders of what happens to societies when they can neither endure their current social condition, not the means to overcome it. It will take extraordinary political imagination and not just offering of quota through political-judiciary means to overcome this condition.

The students sitting on hunger strike at the MAMC since seven day (till 28th May 08) are the guiding light of India and all the countrymen who love the country’s excellence must come to show solidarity.
