YFE Corporate wing launches School Connect Program

Gurgaon,Haryana: YFE Corporate wing launches the ¶School chale hum / School Connect program¶  in Jan 2008. It is said – ¶The knowledge of the world is only to be acquired in the world, and not in a closet¶. In keeping with this spirit the school connect program aims to provide an opportunity for school going children to lift their heads from the books and reflect on the society at large and some of its salient parts. The program launch is made to coincide with the birth anniversary of the ‘forgotten hero’ Subhash Chandra Bose on 23rd Jan 2008.

During the year long efforts of YFE in road protests, rural campaigns and court rooms battles, it was felt that school and college education minimally equipped students for facing real world issues. The aim of schooling has often been referred to as the process of preparing ‘good citizens’. But in a country where even school history books are regularly doctored to suit the ruling parties, it is difficult to expect that books and curriculum alone would meet the goal. Hence under the ¶School chale hum¶ program- YFE’s corporate wing seeks to work closely with schools to provide platforms for students to reflect on some of the issues facing the society and to encourage them to reason and question polices and practices. Today information freely floats into people’s drawing rooms; we feel it is awareness and the feeling of being connected with issues facing our Nation that will shape a future generation of citizens who will purge India of the ills and realize the true vision of a Unified, Developed and Equal India for all its citizens.

A series of events are planned across the year under this program. The first event is an Essay writing competition to be held in 3 schools in Gurgaon. The Schools participating in the event are Rotary Public School (Sector 22 , Ggn), Chiranjiv Bharti School ( Palam Vihar), Lt. Atul Kataria Memorial School ( Sector 14, Ggn). Students of middle and high school would be writing essays to put forth their views on the following topics.

  • India’s Vision of Subhash Chandra Bose    What he thought for present India.
  •  My Vision of year 2020 India
  •  Reservation in Education – relevancy of reservation in education: your views and suggestions.

The topics are  selected so as to provide a unique opportunity to students to reflect on past, present and future. It will allow students to discover the history in a new light, to bring themselves update with points and views on the raging topic of debate today–Reservations; as well as to look into the future and share their aspirations for India 2020. The winners and noteworthy contributors would be rewarded. But the real prize of such an event is sown in out Nations’s future.
