There is no healthy debate in Parliament: Somnath

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Saturday lamented the lack of healthy debate in Parliament and said that political parties were more inclined towards disrupting the functioning of the house with noisy protests.
In a brief discussion with media persons at Meherban Singh ka Purva, Chatterjee said that though the country had taken several positive steps on issues like education, finance, employment and poverty eradication, a lot remained to be done. “With a united approach all the political parties should work on aforesaid issues, as it is extremely important for the development of the country,¶ he added. Chatterjee claimed that it was time the youth came to the fore and participated in active politics. “We need energetic youngsters in politics who have the determination and will power to guide the country in the right direction,¶ he added.
Earlier, at a book release function, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav ruled out a pact with the Congress in the Kaiserganj and Agra Lok Sabha seats from where Beni Prasad Verma and Raj Babbar respectively had won the last elections under the SP banner.
